The New New One
Ryan's family found a kitty last week so we went up this weekend to see him. He's so cute and teeny! The vet said he's about 4 weeks old, but doing great! His little meow will melt your heart. We really wanted to steal him, but we thought 4 cats might be too many ;)

Kittems
I love my hairy one, as he's so affectionately called. He loves to snuggle and keep me warm, he also loves laying on Ryan's clothes when they're on the floor. When there are no clothes on the floor he has to find other places to nap...he found my box of workout clothes and I had to take a picture. Isn't his hairiness the cutest? I promise I don't favor, unlike the hubs.

Must be a kitty
Ryan texted me the other day and told me that our new guy got into the shredded paper and went to town. Ryan didn't clean it up because he wanted me to see it when I got home. He is sure cute, but he is definitely a KITTY. He runs around the house all day, gets into everything, the fridge, drawers, and he scratches, bites, and picks fights. We love him.

The boys and their dad
Our cats LOVE Ryan. They usually don't let me snuggle or pet them, but they go to Ryan a lot. I'll let this picture do the explaining..

Cruelty

The Animal Advocacy Alliance of Utah held a fundraiser today to cover medical bills for a kitten that was burned deliberately.
The kitten was found in a Glendale neighborhood and could become the first case to test Henry's law, which now makes animal abuse a felony in Utah.
Veternarians expect the kitten to recover.
A reward fund has also been created to help catch the person responsible.
For the second time in two weeks, an animal rights group is offering a reward in a case of cruelty to kittens.
KSL told you last week about a kitten that was tortured with burns to her tail, feet, whiskers and back.
Now witnesses say a driver in Washington County tossed two cats out of his car window then ran over one of them, killing it instantly. The other kitten is expected to survive with a compound leg fracture.
The Animal Advocacy Alliance of Utah is offering a $1,000 reward in the case.

Less than 5 days later I find this story! This is close to my heart because I LOVE cats. I told Ryan yesterday that I don't think I could love my own children as much.

Some people make me sick...

Check out this story:
Witnesses say a man in a red Ford pickup truck deliberately threw the dog from the 3900 South overpass onto the road below. ...and it will "likely not qualify" for the new animal torture bill. Oh great, now instead of torture people will just kill animals. Fabulous.

Support Henry's Law!

We must be the voice for our innocent animals in Utah. Lawmakers heard us the first time, and they'll keep hearing us until this bill gets passed. The Governor has put it on the agenda for the Special Session and has said, "Thanks to you it became an issue that carried a high profile and a lot of calls were made....that's how our system works." We need to make our voices heard! Spread this to your friends and make calls to the lawmakers. Some people think there is nothing wrong with a dog stabbed in the face because the neighbor claimed he barked too loud. CLICK HERE or that another was found shot to death in the back yard. Fun toy
Our little one loves this toy we bought. It hangs on the door frame with a little mouse suspended on the end. The cat has been playing with it all day, and he's making me laugh. Just thought I'd share his joy with you.

The New Cats
After our kitties died, the Human Society gave us some exchanges good for 6 months. Ryan wanted to get new ones right away to help fill the void, but I was just worried the same thing would happen to other ones. After spending a day bleaching and sanitizing the whole house, we went back Monday night and got two more cats. We steered clear of kitties, because they're so susceptible, but cat's 1 and older should be fine because they've had all their shots. I found one I liked, but none of the other cats got along with it, so we decided we'd have to get two siblings again. We found 2 that would actually come to us and seemed loving, so we got them. They wouldn't come out from under the bed for one night, but since then, they are fine. We love them very much and are enjoying their sweetness and cuddles.

Feline Distemper
When Ryan and I adopted our kittens we had to sign a document that informed us of Feline Distemper which is quite common right now. Some of the symptoms are: lethargy, loss of apetite, vomiting, diarrhea...etc. After work yesterday i noticed how they would just lie down all evening. Which is very strange for kittens. I thought they were just tired or something. The little white kitten, I noticed, would end up in different parts of the house lying down, like it couldn't sleep. I noticed that it would just lay by the water dish with his head hanging over, but not drink. I found him lying in the litter box. I thought he was just very tired, and zonked off inside the litter. Ryan came home shortly after that and I showed him. He nudged him trying to wake him up and he didn't move. At this point, I started to worry. He tried to stand him up on his legs, but he wouldn't. He literally had no energy, and it was then that I realized all the cute things I thought he was doing were deadly. We immediately called the vet because I realized that it might have this feline distemper virus. A couple minutes into the phone call the cat twitched, then took his last breath. I have never seen something more sad in my life. I started bawling. The vet said we could either throw him away or take him in and have him cremated. Of course, I didn't want to throw him away, so we went to the vet. We took the black cat too, because now, we're assuming it's affected as well. After a lot of heartache and tests, the cat was indeed infected. We had a couple options. We could either try and heal him, which the vet said hardly any cats survive, and was very expensive, take him home, or have him put down. At this point we could tell he'd already gotten worse, and the likeliness of him surviving was grim. After a long cry and goodbye we gave him to the vet and left.
I can't believe how attached I got to animals we barely had for one day. It's so sad.

Our little ones.....
Ryan and I have been wanting to get a cat for a long time. In our old place we had to pay more, so we decided to wait until we moved. On our date last night we went to the Humane Society of Utah. I hate going there because it makes me so sad. Animals shouldn't be locked up like that. They would all just look so sad! I decided that we'd better do some good and get two. We didn't want to separate any litter, so we got these two gems. We're not sure what to name them yet. Any suggestions? The white one is so much smaller than the black, although they told us they're from the same litter. They're about 14 weeks old, and so lovable, just what we wanted. They're so much fun! They insisted sleeping in our bed last night, and kept Ryan up most the night wanting to be petted. We love our babies!
